Open the first link.

  • Copy the mail server addresses.

  • Let's return to the mail settings. Enter the name of the mailbox, your own nickname, paste the copied address of the incoming mail server, select the IMAP protocol. Click “Next”.

Today it is difficult to do without email as such. Reputable Internet services and reputable sites require authorization, which in turn implies the use of a valid electronic mailbox. If you, dear readers, have several active email addresses, then it is not difficult to imagine how inconvenient it is to manage all of them. At the same time, the standard email client for Windows 10 was created specifically to simplify the overall process of working with electronic correspondence. To learn how to configure it correctly, read this article.

Instead of an introduction: user difficulties - “I can’t find the Mail application in the OS”

Depending on the version of the OS used, and as you know, there are several, the Windows 10 edition may have one of the traditional email tools: outlook or Mail. Due to the release of a large update package in Windows 10 (version 1607), the standard Mail application has been replaced by the Outlook program.

However, in our practical guide we will touch on both email clients - we will tell and show you, dear reader, how to set up and subsequently manage your email boxes for email.

Working with the Mail application

It doesn’t matter which interface is used on your PC: look for a shortcut in the form of a white envelope on a blue background with the inherent name “Mail”.

  • Go to the Start menu - All Programs, or use the Start Screen option and find the above-mentioned mail application shortcut in the tiled interface.
  • When you launch the application for the first time, you will be prompted to “Get Started” - click on this button.
  • On the second settings screen, you need to step by step enter the credentials that are assigned to each individual email address.

For example, if you want to use Google mail, then you should select the item of the same name from the list that contains the main Internet mail services. The process of filling out the registration form is a standard procedure, the implementation of which consists of simple steps: entering the login and password assigned to you at the time of creating the mailbox.

  • Next, you agree to the terms of processing of your data.

  • After a few seconds of synchronization, all your email correspondence will be downloaded to your computer.

As you understand, in order for an email client to work with several email services, it is necessary to register the appropriate credentials one by one (step by step).

If you have problems setting up your email program, use our

I don’t presume to judge what your first step on the Internet will be. Most likely, you will launch your browser, thoughtfully stomp around the Yandex page, and type a couple of your most cherished keywords in the search bar. Perhaps you will open about ten sites at random.

But the second step is much easier to predict: most likely, you will immediately rush to get yourself a mailbox. Because today there is nowhere on the Internet without it: neither register on an interesting site, nor start a blog. And you need to tell your friends that you too have finally gotten stuck in the Matrix.

I repeat once again - there is no way without mail. So we will definitely start it - on the same Yandex, Google or Mail.Ru, or better yet on all three at once. Because it’s free, and extra mailboxes on the farm will always come in handy. Another question is how to work with this mail later.

You can, of course, do this in the browser, and for most of us this will be quite enough. What’s simpler is to go to your mailer’s website using your personal username and password, read it, reply, delete it... And calmly leave. Convenient, private, and the mail is stored in a safe place, nothing threatens it.

Is it any wonder that today’s advanced youth don’t even want to hear about any email programs? Like, it’s an anachronism, and there’s a place for such software in a museum, next to dinosaurs, honest politicians and other legends of ancient times.

And yet, just such a program has remained one of the unchanging components of Windows for many years. At first it was called Mail & News, then changed its name to Outlook Express. And then - to Windows Mail. But the adventures of the Windows “mailer” did not end there: in Windows 7 this program was completely removed! And not because the idea of an autonomous “mailer” has exhausted itself, no - it’s just that in this way Microsoft was forced to respond to the attacks of other software developers - they say, isn’t there too much of everything, good gentlemen, that you have included in your shell? Others want to eat too!

In a word, the story of Windows Mail ended there - however, an email program with almost the same name immediately appeared in the Windows Live application suite, which, I hope, you have already downloaded - if not, you can do this at http://get .live.com. Well, in Windows 8 the mailer is available initially, although it will be in demand mainly on mobile gadgets.

Windows 8 Mail is extremely simplified compared to its predecessors - Windows Live Mail and Outlook Express.

The set of functions is kept to a minimum, and the interface is simple, just three vertical windows:

  • The first contains a list of folders.
  • The second contains letter headers.
  • The third displays the text of the letter itself. Finally, in the upper right corner there are three buttons: to create a new letter, reply to a received message and delete (on a computer you can delete unnecessary letters using the Del key).

Previously, in any mail program there was a place for powerful filters, sorters, templates, and so on - but none of this wealth remains in Mail. It’s not surprising that you can do all these and many other operations in the settings of your mail server by logging into its “control panel” through a browser. Mail's responsibilities include only mirroring the folder structure and collection of letters on a remote mail server.

Setting up Mail

You can set up Mail for your account in Windows 10 in the usual way: open the drop-down menu in the upper left corner of the program, select Options

then, in the panel that opens on the right - Accounts

By going to your account settings (icon in the upper left corner - Settings - Accounts), you can change the name of your profile, as well as configure the signature added by default to each letter, and, if necessary, the autoresponder message. You can also specify which email notifications will be honored to be sent to the Notification Panel in the tray - from all recipients or only from Selected ones who have received special trust.

In the parameters of the program itself - (icon in the upper left corner Settings) you can enable the grouping of messages by topic, as well as the display of messages you have sent in threads.

You can add several accounts to the program - in addition to your Windows 10 account linked to the standard Microsoft Outlook.Com email service (even if you created an address in the Live.Ru or Hotmail.com domain, you will be able to view your mail in the browser exactly on this site). In this case, a separate tab is created for each mailer in the program.

Mail works fine from Google (GMail), Yandex mail and Mail.Ru - to add a mailbox in these domains you need to select the option Other account and enter your address and password. But problems may arise with other Russian services, since at the moment Mail can only work with the protocol IMAP, but not with the much more common POP3.

However, you can get out of the situation easily and quite elegantly by setting up a mailbox on Mail.Ru or on GMail.Com to collect mail from other mailboxes. For example, you have a mailbox. Ru, another one, for especially important letters - on GMail, and perhaps a third one, somewhere on Yandex. Great - you can save all your old addresses and read all your mail on one single site!

For example, on GMail, which will periodically collect letters from all your mailboxes and present them to you on a silver platter, or even on Microsoft's Outlook.Com (which, in fact, is what Mail is configured for). Moreover, your correspondents will not even suspect your “moving”: when answering letters, you can use your old mailing addresses as return addresses.

Not only GMail, but also any mail server, including the same Mail.Ru, can work as a collector. However, I strongly recommend that everyone use GMail as their main address. There are many reasons: firstly, Google mail is much more universal; mail programs on any device - from Android phones to iPads - instantly become friends with a mailbox on GMail. The Mail program, as we have already found out, also gets along well with it.

Secondly, Google Mail has much more functions and settings than Outlook. Finally, having created an account on Google, we will immediately receive another “cloud” piggy bank completely free of charge - Google Drive, plus a whole bunch of Google services, many of which will be useful to us.

It’s not difficult to set up collection of letters from other mailboxes on GMail - log into your mailbox using your username and password? Then select the Settings menu and add your addresses to the Accounts and Import menu.

By the way, it’s worth working with Mail in “browser” mode - just to understand how few possibilities the Windows 10 application gives us. Log into your mailbox using your username and password at Outlook.com
